Postural Analysis and Treatment with Anna Orren

Please note this 2 day course takes place on two consecutive Mondays.

Explore how postural analysis can help you read your clients body language more effectively, enabling you to tailor their treatments to their individual needs.

This course is designed to enable practitioners to be clear on how to help each client individually, by reading their structure and understanding what makes them uncomfortable, and what can make them more comfortable again.  Throughout the workshop practitioners will read each other’s bodies and gain insight into why each person feels whatever they feel, and simple guidelines will be established that can be applied to clients.  Then, this information will be applied to hands-on work, with special emphasis on exploring how deeply or superficially we need to work to be most effective in different areas for each person.

Before and after photographs will be taken in order to show the kind of postural changes that can come from this approach. This is an exciting workshop which offers a simple way of looking at clients that can be extremely practical and helpful.

Rhythm Mobility® with Darien Pritchard

Rocking the body, rolling the limbs

When a baby is upset, we instinctively do two things; we stroke them (massage), and we gently rock them. RhythmMobility® addresses the basic need for gentle, rhythmical movement that is often missing in today’s increasingly sedentary world. This day workshop covers a range of ways of rocking the client’s body and rolling their limbs, which can easily be incorporated into massage treatments, and how to adapt them to different clients.

These ‘rocking and rolling’ techniques provide massage practitioners with a way of releasing tension and increasing flexibility that complements and enhances the effects of ‘classic’ massage techniques. In addition, they offer clients a quietly energised sense of their bodies – in contrast to sedentary life.

Rather than imposing a one-size-fits-all rhythm on each client, which can feel jarring, you’ll learn how to find and work with the individual’s natural to-and-fro rhythms in different parts of their trunk and limbs. This is like working out the appropriate force and timing for pushing a child on a swing, according to their build and the amount of movement that they’re happy with.

You’ll learn techniques with the client clothed; however, they can easily be applied in oil massage sessions. There is an emphasis on how to use your body with most ease and effectiveness to deliver the techniques.

Joining instructions: Please wear loose comfortable clothing in which you can easily move and be moved.

All students receive a course booklet and a DVD covering the techniques taught by Darien.

Hands Free Massage with Darien Pritchard

Are you having problems with your hands – or want to avoid reaching that stage? Hands Free Massage is designed to help massage practitioners to save their fingers, thumbs and wrists (the most common areas of strain for practitioners) while applying firm pressure.

This Hands Free Massage day focuses on ‘soft forearm’ techniques (using the bellies of the flexor muscles) on the client’s back. The strokes covered can easily be incorporated into your massage sessions. They include firm sweeping strokes and more detailed work on tension areas.

There is an emphasis on:
•    Learning to use your forearms skilfully and sensitively;
•    How to moderate the pressure applied;
•    How to support this with good body-use rather than working too hard with your arms and shoulders;
•    And how to blend these techniques smoothly into massage sessions.

The aim is to expand your repertoire and freshen your approach, to help you be more effective when applying pressure while saving your hands, thereby helping you to maintain your career.

Darien Pritchard, who this year celebrates 40 years as a bodywork practitioner and teacher, has been using his forearms and elbows for much of that time (without which he would have been unable to sustain his career). He was particularly inspired by receiving deep tissue and Hawaiian massage treatments, and adapted these massage ‘tools’ to deliver ‘Swedish Massage-style’ and deep tissue massage techniques. He began calling it Hands-Free Massage when he started teaching it as a distinctive CPD training nearly 20 years ago.

All students receive a course booklet and a DVD covering the techniques taught by Darien.
