BCMB is recruiting for a Freelance Marketing and Events Officer

The Bristol College of Massage and Bodywork is looking for an experienced individual to join the College as a  freelance Marketing and Events Officer (one day a week). The work is varied and hands on. The role involves working closely with the Office and Facilities Manager and the HR Manager to create, deliver and oversee a timetable of marketing activities to support the promotion of BCMB’s courses and College as a bodywork teaching venue for external bodywork tutors. 

Duties include:

Working with the Office and Facilities Manager and in liaison with the BCMB Management Group the Marketing and Events Officer will:

Produce and facilitate the yearly BCMB marketing plan based on College strategy/SWOT/objectives covering:

  • Building on and developing marketing materials that adhere to current branding and ethos, in both print form and for virtual platforms.  
  • Contribute to the update of our messaging about our courses to include and celebrate the somatic and trauma informed nature of our teaching, demonstrating the cutting edge nature of our approach and content. 
  • Build on and develop BCMB’s social media profile and posting schedule. Collaborating with teaching teams to develop fresh and contemporary content. 
  • Develop and oversee an Events team of both graduates and student volunteers to plan and carry out an annual calendar of events, open evenings and outreach. 
  • Manage a budget. 
  • Explore collaborations with other embodiment communities or groups who depend on their bodies for the success of their work, e.g. acting schools, other body work colleges, music college’s, building and construction companies, local cafe’s and shops. 
  • Carry out any other tasks on the plan as agreed in collaboration with the Office and Facilities Manager and HR Lead. 
  • Report to the Management Group as required. 

In order to promote:

  • BMCB ’s Courses and Workshop program. 
  • BCMB as an Embodiment Training Venue for external providers.
  • BCMB as a venue for regular embodiment classes and events. 
  • Graduate and Student Clinics.
  • Massage and bodywork as a therapeutic intervention, in the same vein as talking therapy, i.e. raise awareness amongst potential clients, and potential referral bodies such as GPs practices of the benefits of ongoing massage and bodywork within a professional therapeutic relationship. 

Person Specification
Essential Skills:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly Collaborative. 
  • Experience of  and enthusiasm for working in a small not for profit organisation.
  • Good creative skills, experience in developing attractive and relevant marketing materials. 
  • Able to maintain confidentiality and sensitivity at all times.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills.
  • Able to juggle conflicting demands and stay calm under pressure. 
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Good Marketing Savvy IT and social media skills.
  • Ability to think ahead, plan and work to a timetable of activity.
  • An interest in and experience of embodiment and bodywork. 

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience of BCMB’s training courses and ethos will be an advantage but is not essential.

Terms and Conditions

  • 1 day a week or 8 hours a week, rhythm of work to be negotiated but at least 4 hours a week in College (on site) on a regular basis. 
  • Self Employed freelance work, paid at £20.00 per hour (negotiable). 
  • Responsible to the BCMB Management Group.
